Amity University Annual Sports Fest ‘Sangathan-2026’ Begins with Sports Torch Ceremony

Lucknow : The annual sports festival ‘Sangathan-2026’ of Amity University, began on Friday with the ceremonial lighting of the sports flame amid Vedic chants and traditional rituals. The annual event aims to promote sportsmanship, physical fitness, healthy living, discipline and the importance of maintaining a healthy body and mind among students.

The festival will feature a wide range of sporting competitions, including cricket, football, kabaddi, tennis, volleyball, kho-kho and various track and field events. Sangathan is organised every year across Amity campuses in India to commemorate the birthday of Dr Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Group, as part of the Founder’s Day celebrations.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Professor (Dr) Anil Vashisht, Pro Vice Chancellor, Wing Commander (Retd) Dr Anil Kumar Tiwari, Deputy Pro Vice Chancellor; Dr Rajesh Tiwari, Dean Academics; and Dr Rajeev Verma, Dean Student Welfare, along with Heads of Institutions, Heads of Departments and faculty members.

Welcoming the dignitaries and participating students, Dr Rajeev Verma briefed the gathering on the tradition and significance of the Sangathan sports festival.

The sporting events were formally inaugurated by Professor (Dr) Anil Vashisht, who handed over the sports torch to the participating athletes. The torch was subsequently carried by Heads of various university departments before being returned to the Pro Vice Chancellor, who lit the sports flame of Sangathan-2026, marking the official beginning of the sporting celebrations.

The Pro Vice Chancellor also witnessed an impressive march-past by participating students.

Addressing the students, Professor (Dr) Anil Vashisht said Sangathan is organised annually at Amity University Lucknow Campus as well as other Amity campuses across India to commemorate the birthday of Dr Ashok K. Chauhan. He highlighted Dr Chauhan’s vision and leadership in the growth of Amity University and its pursuit of excellence.

He further said that Amity University Lucknow Campus, under the leadership of Chairman Dr Aseem Chauhan, continues to advance on the path of excellence. Describing Sangathan as an event that goes beyond competitive sports, he said the festival promotes sportsmanship, community spirit, physical fitness, commitment, discipline, teamwork and courage.

He encouraged students to participate with dedication, follow the rules and maintain respect for their opponents. He also emphasised that while trophies and medals may eventually be stored away, the lessons and experiences gained through sports remain valuable throughout life.

The inauguration ceremony also featured colourful dance and music performances by students from various departments. The cultural presentations added to the festive atmosphere, while faculty members and participants extended their best wishes to the students taking part in the sporting competitions.
